Insight from the past, Understanding for the future
As part of the Newcomers, Neighbors, and Networks initiative, the Center for the Study of Community is sponsoring two Strawbery Banke staff research projects. Both projects examine aspects of immigration in the Piscataqua region, 1880-1930. By providing useful historical comparison, these projects are important contributions to our understanding of contemporary globalization and transnational migration.

Newcomers and Neighbors in the Landscape
Project Team Leader: Sherry Brandsema, Interpreter

This project aims to provide greater understanding of community life in the region while focusing on gardening and horticultural practices of immigrants. Understanding our history of immigration and the landscapes migrants helped to create will enrich Strawbery Banke staff and visitors.
